“It’s the improvisational and aleatory nature of the classroom that makes teaching both fun and challenging!”

Dr. Ricardo Apostol joined the Classics Department in 2019. Ricardo has a Ph.D. in classical studies from the University of Michigan, where he wrote a dissertation about the Roman poet Vergil and his use of genre. He has taught Latin, Greek, history, and literature classes full time since 2010, first at the university level and more recently for Upper and Middle school students. He co-edited a book with Dr. Anastasia Bakogiannis, on the classics in film, and he has also published peer-reviewed articles on topics from Petrarch’s Latin poetry to Greek poetry of the early Roman Empire to the classics in 20th-century Greek modernism.
